about Matt
Hi,

I'm Matt Barker. I'm husband to Ginny, dad to Susannah, Elizabeth, Seth and Mary. We live in Swannanoa, NC, with our dog and three cats.

I'm a North Carolina real estate broker. Ginny and I work together to help folks buy and sell houses and land in Asheville and the NC Mountains. (See http://www.AshevilleNeighbor.com)

I'm a graphic designer, with more than 20 years of experience in all phases of print design and production. I'm doing less of that now, as real estate occupies most of my time, but I take on projects as the opportunity arises.

You can learn more about me in other places here, so that's all for now.
Denomination: Presbyterian Church in America
Church Involvement: Member
Leadership Involvement: Will help when asked
Church Interests: Christian Education, Bible studies, Mercy ministries, Missions
I'll have to think about this one.
I look up to family members more than anyone else. Dad, mom, grandparents.

Matt Barker's hobbies
Reading: Novels, mysteries and popular history being favorite categories.
Graphic Design: Particularly sports and transportation branding, environmental design, packaging and poster design.
Sports: Carolina Panthers, St. Louis Cardinals. Will play soccer when given the opportunity.
Cars: Not so much working on them, or even driving them, though I have enjoyed both at various times. I like automotive design and history most of all.
Solving Problems: I like to figure things out.
Eclectic tastes: Right now I listen to a lot of pop/rock stuff my kids are into: Switchfoot, Coldplay, All-American Rejects, Daughtry, Jars of Clay, Flyleaf, etc. I've introduced them to ELO, the Fixx, the Who, the Doobie Brothers, Bruce Cockburn and Over the Rhine. My favorite group no one's heard of is the Griffins, roots rockers from New England who put out just one CD.
Miracle, Apollo 13, Seabiscuit, etc. (Underdog/Overcoming adversity stories)
I watch House, Bones and CSI episodes sometimes with my teenage kids.
American Idol can be interesting.
Otherwise not much TV apart from sports (Panthers games, baseball playoffs, etc.)
Lately, I've been reading detective novels by Ian Rankin.
When I have nothing new, I go back to "shockers" by John Buchan (eg. The Thirty-Nine Steps) or read histories by Stephen Ambrose, David McCullough or Winston Churchill.
