about Ginny
First and foremost I am a happily married mother of 4 who lives in the wonderful, one day to be incorporated Swannnanoa, NC. I live about a mile from Warren Wilson College, the top pot smoking college in the country, so people around here are real laid back and mellow most of the time. I am also the custodian of 3 cats (2 adult snobs whose relationship is to nothing but food and a 9 week old gray furball) and a wonderfully inteliigent mutt named Chip. I am also in real estate. I do not like to use the term realtor, as it conjurs up images of big hair, expensive jewelry, power suits and expensive cars, none of which I possess. My husband, Matt, and I work as a team in the business, which pans out quite well as long as he does not boss me around.

Reading, reading, reading
History, mainly social history, you can forget the military stuff and politicians
Meteorology and exciting weather events in particular
Geography (you should see the GIS map collage on our wall)
Genealogy and family history (including the mysterious Melungeons)
Ethnic groups, migrations and cultures
House stuff ...as in housing stock and prices and construction methods, not as in decorating as I do not have the time or the money
Linguistics
Epidemiology
Walking and swimming so I don't jump out of my skin
Lots of soundtracks, Jars of Clay, Switchfoot, good old 70s rock and roll
Sense and Sensibility, On A Clear Day (2007), Waking Ned Divine, Clockwise, My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding, Bride and Prejudice, What About Bob?, Trading Places, When Harry Met Sally, Parenthood, Back To The Future, National Treasure
Yes, I admit it....American Idol. Other than that, if we had the History Channel I would be toast.
Strictly non-fiction. I know, how shallow of me. Just finished Old Money, New South by Dean Arnold about Chattanooga. I read the thing cover to cover with a highlighter. Otherwise I love Bill Bryson, Jon Krakauer, Tom Bodett. Albion's Seed by David Hackett Fischer is a classic and should be on everyone's bookshelf. Simon Winchester and John Barry have the ability to take absolutely fascinating subjects and make them totally boring and inaccessible to the general public. And yes, Dave Barry's Book of Bad Songs is a hoot.
