Seeing Red (but, I'm not mad)

A few ponderings have come my way these past few months since the last time I have written. And I just thought I would share. And as Always comments and questions are always, always welcome.
So, here goes it.
A few months ago I was in a bible study, and we were talking about love. Where does it come from? How do we show it to others, the same age-old questions, blah, blah blah.
The natural answers, love comes from the heart and we show love when we help others and to these things I say True.
However, I couldnt help but, ponder a bit deeper. Especially, about the heart; in literal the heart pumps the blood though the body so the blood can cleanse, heal, carry oxygen, and nutrients all over the body. Now with out the heart we would get now were fast, that has been proven with the nice brush of death called the heart attack. This is where my wondering really began. What would happen if there was no blood to pump? The heart would be rendered useless and yet again the good ol grim reaper would be at the door. Not only can you die of failure or mortal wounding of the heart but you can also, cross over because of blood loss as well. Oh goo-dee. If I go any further with this Ill barf. I think yall see what I mean here, so lets move on.
Well, now that we got the gross stuff out of the way lets talk about the symbolic of the heart and blood shall we.
The heart is the noted most romantic object ever written, sung, drawn, or dramatized about. Supposedly its the deepest part of the soul the way we always confess our loves. We apologize from the heart, we cherish from in the heart, so on and so forth. Valentines day big red hearts everywhere! Big red HEART boxes of chocolates, heart shaped cards, bouquets with heart shaped flowers, teddy bears, holding you guessed it, HEARTS.
Now, I have to admit it would be a bit weird for a V-day bear to be holding a vile of blood to show its affections, yet, thats almost where Im going here. Note: I said almost.
When sacrifice was made at the alters, it was the incense of blood and burnt offerings that was the aroma that filled Gods house. Because of sin, blood was the price to be paid, the heart usually got chunked with the rest of the unusable organs, as well as some parts were kept to the side for the priests of the temple to eat. Fast-forward a bit to the crucifixion of Jesus. It wasnt his heart that was put on the line when he was hanging on the cross. You hung there till you suffocated, when you lungs filled up with fluid or until you bleed to death. This is the part I found a bit interesting; the blood of the animal sacrifice was drained, down to the last drop. Till the animal was completely void of its life force. Now, there hangs Jesus; Beaten, bloody and dripping being drained of his life force. His blood was shed for our sins right down to the last drop in His body.
This is in straight theory, so you might deem me certifiable before you finish reading this blog. But, I would guess that Jesus gave every last drop of blood he had before he was even close to giving up the ghost. Think about it, he had the power to lay down his life at any moment, he could have been up on that cross for only seconds, be he stayed. Because he knew that a greater sacrifice was to be made, he didnt die just for the people of his time, he died for the people in ours too.
He loved us not just in heart, but with his blood. With the very life force of our physical beings, he poured himself over us.
What is the heart without the blood? Pretty useless.
What is the blood without the heart? Very messy. Yes, They both work together tremendously well. And we need them both. In going back to the original sediments, I dont believe that love comes just the symbolic place of a blood pumping muscle. But, that love comes from the very force that keep us together, it nurtures us, heals us, cleanses us. Love should flow through our veins as thick, and rich as the crimson grace that covers us. Love isnt just from the heart, love isnt just doing something nice for someone, or working in a soup kitchen. Love for others only comes when we love them as our self, love comes when they encompass who we are.
