The Land Rover is Running

Wed, May 14th, 2008 @ 7:52PM

For those that know the story of Rob's Land Rover, this will make sense. If not, you'll have to live with it. I am hoping for the best with this thing so we can sell it. Anyone looking for a 95 Land Rover Discovery? Great off road vehicle. Well the boys took Dawn and I out for Mother's day this evening. It was the first night all 5 of us could make it. We had a nice dinner at Provino's. Got home and cut the grass since rain is on the way, and we'll be gone this weekend at Jordan and Elise's wedding. Then helped Rob finish his truck. YES I said FINISH fixing his truck. All parts back together after replacing head gaskets. The drum roll came and the starter kicked to life and turned over that 3.9 liter V-8. The fuel pump filled up the fuel lines and voila, it came to life. She sounded pretty quiet, but then there was smoke everywhere. Thick creamy smoke. We were worried. No leaks, let the engine heat up, thermostat open and water flowing. Still no leaks but still alot of smoke. Rob took it for a quick ride around the neighborhood. Smoke galore. Turned her off, checked all fluid levels all ok. Cranked it and let it idle. Rob took another short ride. Came back, still smoking. Thought came to my head, well the head gaskets blew spewing water all inside the heads and into the exhaust system. My thinking is there's water all through the exhaust pipes and muffler. We let her idle and heat up good, after about 30 the smoke was pretty much gone. I may have stumbled on to something. Anyway, wrapped things up, Rob will check her out in daylight and take her for a more strenuous drive tomorrow. Well I'm dirty and tired, thanks guys for dinner, and I'm going to bed soon. Byezzzzzzzzz.
