April 2nd we took a 45 minute train trip to the biggest sightseeing city in Japan, during the peak of tourist season and spring break with the cherry blossoms in full bloom. Naturally, it was utter chaos. Very enjoyable chaos, though. We visited Nijo-Jo (Nijo Castle) and Kiyomizu-dera the first day there, and on April 3rd we went to Heian Shrine and Ginkaku-ji. (My favorite was the garden at Heian shrine, all of it's many, many cherry blossom trees were blooming.)
I have a lot of pictures, but I haven't been able to upload any yet, hopefully next week I can post them. (I know pictures are more fun than listening to me blather on and on.)
