Topic: The Signs of Christ Deity in the Gospel of John
Original topic created on Thu, January 10th, 2008 @ 7:17PM

Last week we had a great discussion about the first sign or miracle indicating Christ's deity in the gospel of John--The miracle at the wedding of Cana in Galilee when Jesus turned the water into wine. As we begin to learn through these miracle accounts I would like for us to talk about the definition of a sign. What is a sign? Is there a difference between a sign and a symbol? What are some signs that have directed you to understand the deity of Christ in your spiritual journey?

Todd, I like the questions you have posed related to signs/symbols ... I don't think I have an answer for all of them, but I do have thoughts about the difference between signs and symbols. To me, signs point you in the right direction and a symbol is a representation of something. A symbol can be used as a sign, but a sign won't always be used as a symbol. To me, a sign of faith is when someone trusts; a symbol of Christianity is the Cross. Signs that have pointed me to Christ have included seeing a changed life; watching my parents live out their faith; seeing God work through Amber Leigh's surgery, etc. I hope others will join in on the conversation.
