Traditionally in recent years the Republican presidential nominee has had to make some sort of strong appeal to Christian evangelicals for an important slice of the vote. In this election season, it's at least starting out quite differently. John McCain has downplayed religious issues to a dramatic degree and has remained quite private about his personal beliefs. With Obama, for a variety of reasons, his personal faith has come front and center. Why? Will this change over the course of the campaign? |
