Hey everyone. Do y'all (haha...being from the north I would really say "you guys", but ofthen think with "y'all"...anyways, it's a constant battle to know which phrase to use) have favorite places to go in the southeast? My favorite place to go by far is Charleston...it is such a unique place, being on the coast and having such a rich history...I also loved Isle of Palms (near Charleston). It is so beautiful and peaceful there... I would rank Charleston as the second place to go in the U.S., the number one being the Tetons in Wyoming... I've also enjoyed hiking at Table Rock state park (SC), Ceasar's Head (SC) and DuPont National Forest (NC)... I'd love to hear all your favorite places...especially being new to the area. |

Hey I love Charleston, too, and lived in Wyoming for a summer while I was working in Yellowstone. I spent as much time in the Tetons as possible while I was there and LOVED every minute. Came back about a year later in the Winter and got to see the town covered in snow- equally as cool if not more so. If you're new to the area I would definitely suggest hitting Cade's Cove in Tennessee. It's about halfway between Knoxville and Asheville on HWY 40. There is a 9 or 11 mile loop there (can't remember exactly) with lots of open space and cool, historic landmarks along the way (an old church, a mill, and at least one barn). The only way I've ever done this loop is on bike, at night, under a full moon. It's amazing and best experienced with a small group of nutty friends. There is a campground at the beginning of the loop so when you're done you just bike to your tent and pass out. Bring the right pack of people and you're guaranteed a night that you'll never forget! |

Alright--as far as coastal towns, I love Beaufort, NC. Beaufort is right across the bridge from Atlantic Beach (another definite favorite) and is home to cobblestone streets, acoustic guitar players and The Blue Moon Bistro--one of my favorite fresh seafood restaurants in NC. North Carolina beaches rule--they haven't changed much over the past 20 years with the exception of a cheezy Wings store or two. Man--I can't wait for summer. But since i moved to Atlanta, I need to start looking a little further south than NC.
here's beaufort--
