OK, I would post as a resident of Asheville but I am not any more. Does Swannanoa count? Anyway, here's my take" Salsa's: Yes, I love it. Matt, on the other hand, does not. Then again, he doesn't like cilantro either. Says it tastes like the weird white powder inside balloons. Stoney Knob: Love it. Urban Burrit: Love it. Great pineapple and cilantro salsa. Picnics: We have been eating at Picnics since Day 1 and still love it. The chicken is the best and the sides are fantastic. And you leave feeling healthier for having eaten there. That is, unless you are pestered to death by Grandma, who waltz's the premises pushing her overpriced cakes and pies on anyone in sight. For the "where the locals eat" ambiance try Parkway Cafe in Oteen (it was better before they updated it and raised their prices) and Athens Pizza in Swannanoa. George's Deli, tucked in next to the Exxon on Leicester Highway, delivers a wicked Ruben. For the world's worst service, I must choose Mellow Mushroom. We spent an hour waiting for our pizza (though fully entertain by the man in the booth next to us who was having an animated conversation with himself). Clients who I am planning to meet at 1pm will call at 12:30 to say that they just stopped at Mellow Mushroom for a "quick bite" and I have to warn them that we may need push things back a couple of hours. There needs to be a disclaimer on that place before you enter.

Barley's Tap Room I love the beer and atmosphere, but I think the food is over rated. I still love going there, but prefer Mellow Mushroom for the Pizza.

I'd have to say my current favorite downtown is Table...on College St, I believe. Their menu changes often b/c they mostly serve food that's a) in season and, b) grown/raised locally. And if that's not enough to make you want to go tomorrow- know also that the food is fantastic, the atmosphere is NYC, and the prices are reasonable. Hit it if you haven't already!!!

OK - I'm an Ashevillian - first I have to say hi to Stephen who is probably shocked that I finally joined up - thanks for your patience! My favorite "authentic Asheville" dining experience is Asheville Pizza and Brewing Co. I like just about everything they serve, and the place, the people, and the food are sufficiently funky (where else can you get a walnut pizza?). And I like the beer! Another Asheville experience is Heiwa Shokudo - sushi/japanese on North Lexington amid tattoos and piercings -

Brad, I must admit that Heiwa Shokudo is my absolute favorite Asheville restaurant. I miss it!

Durn - didn't know it was gone - guess I don't get out as much as I used to!
