I'm a bit in the dark, though, about what happened "when his shirt came off" that negated the narrator's self confidence. Pec envy? An ugly tattoo? A hideous scar? The rest of the song is reasonably literal so I don't think I'm missing any symbolism.. Keep up the amazing work, you guys..
